How to Get Your Prescott Home Ready for Holiday Guests

Clean Prescott Valley living and dining room decorated and ready for holiday guests

Thanksgiving and Christmas bring family, friends and a lot of foot traffic through Prescott and Prescott Valley homes. The good news is you don't have to scrub every inch. Guests notice a few key spots, and if those are clean, the whole house feels ready.

Here's a simple plan you can start two weeks out.

Two weeks out: tackle what guests notice first

The entryway. It's the first thing people see. Wipe down the front door, sweep the porch, clean the light fixture and give the floor a good mop. Prescott's dry, dusty fall weather means dirt gets tracked in fast, so a washable mat inside and out helps a lot.

The guest bathroom. Scrub the toilet, sink and tub, clean the mirror, and wipe down the fixtures. Hard water spots are common across the Quad Cities, so a little vinegar on faucets and glass shower doors goes a long way. Stock fresh towels, extra toilet paper and hand soap.

The guest room. Wash the bedding, dust the nightstands and ceiling fan, and clear off a dresser so guests have room to unpack.

One week out: the kitchen

The kitchen works hardest during the holidays, so give it attention before the cooking starts.

  • Clean out the fridge to make room for leftovers
  • Wipe down cabinet fronts and handles, where fingerprints build up
  • Clean the inside of the microwave
  • Clean the inside of the oven if you'll be roasting a turkey (a dirty oven can smoke)
  • Scrub the sink and wipe the stovetop

Three days out: dust and floors

  • Dust ceiling fans, blinds and baseboards. Pine pollen and high desert dust settle here fast in Prescott homes
  • Vacuum under furniture and along edges
  • Mop hard floors
  • Spot-clean couch cushions and throw blankets

The day before: a quick reset

Wipe counters, empty trash cans, quick-clean the guest bathroom again and light a candle. That's it.

What's worth handing off

If your calendar is already full with shopping, cooking and travel, a professional deep clean before guests arrive takes the biggest jobs off your plate. A deep clean covers baseboards, ceiling fans, vents, blinds and detailed bathroom scrubbing, the stuff that's hardest to fit into a busy week. You can add the inside of the oven or fridge too.

After the holidays, a lot of families keep the momentum going with recurring bi-weekly cleaning so the house stays guest-ready all year.
